My skin usually goes through a transition phase from winter to spring. It gets a little red in the cheek area, more congested and looks dull. Basically, it’s in need of a little spring season reboot. After a solid two years of using the trendy face sheet masks, I recently went back to good old-fashioned masks, you know the ones you slather on your face and have tha spa moment at home. Face masks are perfect to help nourish and balance the skin and great for when the weather wreaks havoc — cold, damp and dark some days and then warm and sunny the next. Plus, what’s great about the masks today is that you only need 10 minutes for that extra boost your skin is looking for.
Here’s some masks that will help skin make the transition to warmer spring days:
Dr. Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Hydrating Mask — This bright blue cooling marine algae and hyaluronic mask is easy to whip up (you mix a powder with a gel) and feels soothing on skin right away. It’s the most spa-like mask I’ve done at home in a long time and the goopy blue mixture goes on easily and turns into a rubbery mask as it dries. Use once a week when skin needs an extra moisture boost and for a nice glow.
Fresh Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy Boosting Face Mask — This mask puts me in a happy mood as soon as I smell it — it’s loaded with a ton of citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons and clementines to exfoliate and smooth skin as well as a vitamin fruit complex. Leave on for 15 minutes and skin will be glowy and soft. I use it when my skin is looking dull and want a little pick me up before a night out or just when I wanted it looking more awake.
The Body Shop Ethiopian Honey Deep Nourishing Mask — Honey has antibacterial properties and is also soothing and skin smoothing, and that is why I love using this face mask when I feel my skin is a little more sensitive and dry, but also getting some breakouts. Infused with community trade honey from Ethiopia, marula oil and olive oil this mask you can do a few times a week to get skin back in tip-top-shape.
Perricone MD Cocoa Moisture Mask — By far one of the most fun and yummy smelling masks I’ve tried in a while. The whipped consistency feels like cake icing, and is infused with tiny capsules filled with cocoa that when rubbed in turn to a dark chocolate brown color. It feels really decadent and you only need to leave on for ten minutes for dewy soft skin.
Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Clay Mask + Scrub — I love how this masks does a good job in only five minutes and it doubles as a face scrub to degunk pores and leave skin glowy and smooth. Bamboo charcoal and kaolin clay work to lift impurities while natural silica beads gently exfoliate. It’s a great mask for all skin types, but if you are oily and congested this one works wonders.
