I have the travel bug again. Usually fleeing to a tropical island does the trick, but this time I’m craving something different. I want a place where my husband and I can go unwind, one with spectacular scenery that is a bit rustic, but still luxurious, has good-for-you options such as a spa and fitness classes, no big crowds, and most of all a place that is really peaceful and calming.
The place that fits all this criteria is The Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California. Located right off scenic Highway 1, this luxury green-designed hotel features 40 guestrooms (more like private cottages) perched on cliffs overlooking the Pacific. Guestrooms and suites dot the 100-acre property and are made of glass, steel, wood and marble, featuring wood-burning fireplaces, an indoor spa tub and private outside deck. There are no TVs and alarm clocks, which I thoroughly enjoy, though there is complimentary WiFi.
Besides the jaw-dropping views, privacy, peacefulness and superb service, what makes this place even dreamier are the hotel’s activities: daily yoga and meditation classes, nature walks, shaman sessions and stargazing in the evenings. There’s also a spa that uses organic products with wild-crafted essential oils, heated swimming pool, basking spas overlooking the Pacific and a stellar restaurant featuring one of the largest wine selections in the US.
Rooms start at $675 per night, www.postranchinn.com
