I’m pretty low maintenance with my hair, but in the summertime I spend more time taking care of it. Once August rolls around and I’ve been outside more, I start to incorporate a handful of quality products that protect my color, add moisture, remove buildup and keep hair looking shiny and healthy. I used to not wash my hair as much, but this time of year I need to wash my hair more frequently and use products that nourish and strengthen as well as remove buildup for better looking results. Below are some of the products that I’ve been using to repair and strengthen my hair and reverse any summer damage:
1. Hair Mask
I often skip hair masks because of time, but this instant spray mask nourishes hair in just a few minutes. Once a week, I’ve been applying this lightweight mask into wet hair after I shampoo and comb through with my fingers. I like how it’s not heavy, but contains nourishing ingredients such as cupuacu butter, apple cider vinegar for shine and fruit and plant extracts to strengthen and repair hair. If your hair is more damaged, you can leave this mask on longer for more benefits.
2. Clarifying Shampoo
My hair shows buildup quickly and in between hair color appointments and being out in the sun and at the pool makes it look dull and limp faster. Once every other week, I’ve been using a clarifying shampoo. Hairstylist Matt Swinney, says “whether it’s the beach or the pool, chemicals and pollutants from water can build up on the hair and not allow your products to do their job.” He recommends a clarifying shampoo, such as L’ANZA Healing ColorCare Clarifying Shampoo), to remove impurities and chemicals while keeping color safe. I’ve been using a clarifying shampoo in the picture above once every two weeks or when my hair needs a reboot and it makes it look balanced and healthy.
3. Purple Shampoo
Blonde hair definitely takes some maintenance and I find that adding in a purple shampoo once a week such as this one works well to keep my color from looking brassy and makes it shinier and brighter.
4. Leave-in Treatment
I apply a little bit of this do-it-all cream to the ends of my hair when it’s wet and it adds just the right amount of moisture and shine, UV protection, helps prevent breakage from combing and pulling, and leaves hair soft without being greasy. Plus, it smells AMAZING!!!
