I just came back from a wonderful few days in New York City packed to the brim with a little bit of shopping, a whole lot of eating and catching up with old friends. Being back in the city always gives me that creative boost I need and I love spending a good chunk of my time walking around the streets, taking the subway and just being a New Yorker. The West Village has a special place in my heart as we lived there for six years before we moved away and carved out a wonderful close-knit community. On this visit, I spent most of my time back in the old neighborhood and got to experience some great new spots as well as old faves that I’d thought I’d share.
For Drinks: While We Were Young
How cute is the decor of this place? I heard about this hip, bar and restaurant online and happened to stumble upon it for a pre-dinner cocktail with girlfriends. The tiny bar and restaurant is clad in marble, navy blues and blush-colored banquettes. Go early to grab a seat at the bar and sip on their delicious cocktails such as the kale margarita infused and dine on healthy grain bowls and house made pasta.
Situated in an old townhouse, this is one of my village favorites to grab a drink with friends. There’s good lighting, funky rooms all with a different vibe, a lively bar scene and yummy cocktails.
To Eat: Via Carota
I’m still dreaming about the food at Via Carota, which was so simple, but one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. It’s bustling and a great neighborhood spot. I actually visited here when it first opened in 2015, but this visit was even better. The small plates are spectacular — grilled artichokes, mushrooms with smoked cheese, tasty green salads — as well as the meyer lemon risotto and grilled orata.
This Italian-inspired spot has a friendly vibe and sits on one of the liveliest corners in the village. The menu is small and simple, but tasty with a few appetizers, pastas and a couple of main dishes. I prefer to sit at the bar, have a glass of wine and share some nibbles with friends.
Shop: Otte NY
Hands down my favorite shop in the city for that cool piece of jewelry, new bag or chic blouse. The well-curated goods are always current with a bit of cool girl edginess. I’m biased to the village location as I walked by there multiple times a day, but they have a few other city locations.
