I’m in total summer mode now that it’s August and want to soak up all the great things about the season now through Labor Day. Since I’ve been spending a lot more time at the pool and beach (New England living), I’ve been having a lot of fun playing with summer nail polish colors — bright orangey-reds, punchy watermelons, creamy oceanic blues and flattering opaque pastels. Here are some of my favorite summer polishes to wear in the peak of pedicure season:
Essie in Loot the Booty — Blues are so pretty in the summer and a darker cobalt hue with a touch of subtle purple and turquoise flecks (it actually looks much prettier on) looks great on all skin tones and makes a stylish statement.
Lauren B. Beauty in Ocean Ave — This creamy beachy periwinkle blue looks great on toes and hands whether you are summering in Maine or Malibu. The polish is glossy, won’t chip and gives a nice opaque color in two coats.
Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Flushed Wanderer — A feminine blush-tone pink that works well for the office as well as the beach in a long-lasting and easy-to-use brush on gel formula.
Formula X in Breathtaking — Flecks of shimmer in this creamy peachy-pink hue add great shine and depth to a neutral that would work for any occasion all summer long.
Jin Soon in Crush — Part of the Rose Balsam summer collection, this sheer bright orangey red is inspired by flowers and looks great on both hands and toes for a chic look.
butter LONDON in Sunnies — I usually don’t gravitate towards pastel peach-hued polishes, but this particular one conjures sunshine, sunflowers and days spent in a flowy summer dress. It flatters most skin tones, but particularly works well for olive and darker skin tones.
Orly Breathable Treatment + Color in Beauty Essential — A fun summer bright in a pinky-coral hue that contains nourishing Argan oil, vitamin B5, base coat and top coat for long-lasting color and shine.
Smith & Cult in Regret the Moon — A creamy opaque whitish-pink with lavender undertones looks great with a tan and goes with everything.
Marc Jacobs Beauty Hi-Shine Lacquer in Good Friday — This line has some of my favorite summer polish colors, but I particularly love this whitish-mint glossy hue that flatters all skin tones and is a great replacement for a basic neutral.
