It’s the new year and I’m ready to move forward with some home renovation projects that were put on hold. One of the projects is to remodel the fireplace wall in the family room. Currently, the wall in the family room holds the fireplace, which is encased with white molding and cabinetry that was built out to hold the TV. It looks impressive, but it’s bulky — a little too traditional for our taste — and requires the TV to be hung a bit too high, which is kind of strange and annoying. Waah…poor me, but now living in the burbs, so Netflix is a priority. We’ve decided to replace the bulky molding, leaving the honed granite fireplace, and apply white shiplap to the walls. The shiplap will make the room look more modern and fresh, and also give it a beachy nautical feel, which is fitting since we live steps from the water. I can’t wait for this project to start. Here’s some fireplace inspiration that is getting me excited for the remodel:
Vertical shiplap surrounding the fireplace gives it a clean, sophisticated look.
Obsessed with this dark grey shiplap that is rustic, but also refined.
This is clean and chic, and fits in so many settings — the beach, country, mountain home. Plus, I love the firewood holder surrounded by shiplap. (Studio McGee)
A little coastal and traditional mix here with shiplap walls all around.
The wood beam and stone blends seamlessly with the shiplap. So cozy, but still sophisticated.
