It’s only been two months since I left New York. There are a lot of great things about living in my sweet, suburban, New England town (a spacious home, the kids bike to school, fishing and boating at the end of my block), but there are a ton of things that I miss about living in the city. I have to say I really loved living in a bustling urban environment with everything at my fingertips, and for a while looked down on the suburbs (most city dwellers do). If I would visit family or friends for the day or weekend, I couldn’t wait to head back in the city where life never stopped. It was invigorating and was my happy place.
Pretty much everyone who I meet here says that I couldn’t have moved to a more different place. They’re right, and I’m adjusting to a slower pace of life, which in some ways has been really nice. But, I think about NYC every day and the little things that I wish were here. Here’s what I’m missing:
Bumping into people on the street. I’m lucky if I see my neighbor.
The fashion and street style. Always on point and cutting edge.
Seeing all types of people and ages riding Citi Bikes around town.
Going to dinner with friends and not worrying about driving home.
A nail salon that has the latest polish colors and does a really good job.
I’m sure there is so much more, but at the moment I miss those little things that made living in the city so great.
