It’s mid-July and if you aren’t slathering sunscreen on multiple times a day then you need to think again. I’m all about sunscreen (after all, it causes wrinkles) and always have one for the face (usually a mineral formula), body and other hard-to-reach spots. Here’s some that I’m loving right now:
For the Face:
I’m super-picky when it comes to sunscreen for my face. I won’t use anything that will cause breakouts, irritate skin or leave a chalky residue. Replenix UltiMATTE Perfection SPF 50 is a tinted zinc oxide formula that glides on smooth and contains a slew of good-for-you ingredients such as green tea, resveratrol, vitamin C and Co-Q10, while leaving a subtle matte finish. One or two sprays of Goldfaden MD Sun Visor Ultralight Oil Free SPF 30 Mist covers the face and neck and absorbs nicely into skin. I even like to spray it on my kids when we are in a hurry and they never complain about the way it feels, which is a huge plus. Avene Mineral Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 is an ultra-light mineral sunscreen that offers plenty of protection without any chemicals. It contains vitamin E for hydration, thermal spring water to soothe and won’t leave a white residue. Dark spots get worse in the sun and Dr. Dennis Gross Dark Spot Sun Defense SPF 50 works to prevent hyperpigmentation with potent antioxidants and melatonin while also repairing sun damage. It wears well with makeup or by itself. MD Complete Anti-Aging Youthful Skin Sun Shield SPF 50 is hydrating without being greasy. It absorbs quickly, contains essential fatty acids to help strengthen skin and leaves a matte finish.
Eyes, Lips and Other Parts of the Face:
I like to jog and swim outside during the summer months, but don’t always bring sunglasses or a hat (I know it’s bad), which is why Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Circle Perfector SPF 30 piqued my interest. It’s a concealer and a mineral SPF in one and does not irritate the skin around the eyes in the slightest bit (most sunscreens sting my eye area). My lips suffer from being out in the sun. I need something super-hydrating while also blocking harmful UV rays and Supergoop! AcaiFusion Lip Balm is my go-to, containing nourishing shea butter and oils without any strange SPF taste. I always make sure I have a portable stick handy. Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Eventone SPF 50 stick smells great, glides on smooth and contains nourishing shea and cocoa butter.
I’m more forgiving when it comes to choosing a sunscreen for my body and have a soft spot for ones that smell beachy, but also like to have a few that are natural and chemical free. Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion SPF 30 feels really nice on skin, is moisturizing and oil-free while offering UVA and UVB protection. Sprays that have a continuous mist are easy to apply and can get in hard-to-reach spots. Bare Republic Mineral Sport Spray is an all-natural chemical-free spray that goes on evenly without causing any breakouts or irritation. The refreshing L’Oreal Invisible Protect Clear Cool Lotion melts into skin and won’t get all over my dark swimsuits. Plus, it’s oil-free so I can also use on my face. Hawaiian Tropic Touch of Color SPF 15 is a tinted moisturizing spray that leaves a subtle glow to legs while protecting from UV rays. Plus, I go crazy for the tropical smell. Lastly, Kiehl’s Activated Sun Protection SPF 50 is a lightweight mineral sunscreen infused with antioxidants and good for the face and body.
