Recently, I was looking at pictures of the handsome actor George Clooney and his now wife, Amal Alamuddin, being transported by boat through Venice’s historic canals and thought of how I need to go back to this magical city. If I have the opportunity where money is no object, where would I choose to stay?
Well, I found my dreamy once-in-a-lifetime place and it just so happens that Mr. Clooney and his beautiful bride chose the same place as their wedding venue: The Aman Canal Grande Venice.
I stayed at the Amanpuri in Phuket on my honeymoon and fell hard for this hotel brand as they do luxury right and make you feel so special without being obtrusive. Located in a former Palazzo built in 1550, the 24-room 5-star hotel fronts right onto the Grand Canal and can only be accessed by boat. You’ll find 18th Century frescos on the ceilings, historic museum-quality art and Murano chandeliers mixed with modern furnishings that stay within Aman’s signature simplicity. Guests have access to the two private gardens—one overlooking the canal—a three-room spa, rooftop terrace and small gym. Sounds like paradise to me. Rates start at $1,063
