I’ve been to Miami a dozen of times over the years and love the Art Deco buildings, stylish hotels, good weather and fun nightlife. It’s a great place to go with girlfriends, the family (just pick a family-friendly hotel) or that special someone. I usually pick a hotel in South Beach, so I can lounge poolside or at the beach, and be within walking distance to restaurants, shops and the other hotels. On my last trip, I got to dine and explore the Design District, which was a nice change from the crowds in South Beach.
Here are my picks to make your Miami visit fun and memorable:
The James Royal Palm – This is a great spot for those not looking for a crazy party scene, but good amenities such as a lovely spa, two swimming pools, restaurant, complimentary bike rentals and even a pet program. Ask for an oceanview room or you may have views of a nearby apartment building. Rates start at $240
Metropolitan by COMO –This 74-room boutique hotel is the first U.S property of the upscale COMO brand and mixes Art Deco touches with modern amenities. A draw is the relaxing pool and COMO spa, which features an extensive menu of treatments, a yoga terrace, rooftop hydrotherapy pool and juice bar. Rates start at $261
The SLS Miami Beach –Right on Collins Avenue with beach access, this hotel is one of the most popular places to be see and be seen on the SoBe strip. The hotel is bustling in the evening with two ultra-hip restaurants Katsuya and The Bazaar by José Andrés and hot nightspot Hyde Beach. Rates start at $300
Katsuya by Starck – Fresh sushi, tasty cocktails and a lively atmosphere makes this place a good spot for a memorable dinner.
Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink – Locals flock to this restaurant in Miami’s Design District for its fresh, local cuisine in a laid back atmosphere.
Harry’s Pizzeria – This casual Design District brick oven pizzeria offers a variety of fresh, tasty salads and delicious thin crust pizzas.
The Broken Shaker – This James Beard award nominated cocktail lounge makes high-quality cocktails in a cool, laidback atmosphere.
The Regent Cocktail Club at the Gale Hotel – Expect classic drinks by Miami’s best mixologists in a 1940s loungey vibe.
