Charleston, South Carolina is one of those cities where everything seems to come together so perfectly—the historic architecture, mild weather, delicious food, Civil War-era attractions and friendly people. The first shots of the Civil War were shot in Charleston Harbor at Fort Sumter and you still feel TKTKTK. The historic district and downtown is easy to navigate on foot and there are tons of excellent restaurants and hotels, making it a perfect getaway for a long weekend.
Where to Eat and Drink:
The food and drink scene in Charleston is buzzing with notable chefs fusing the best of low-country cuisine with fresh, seasonal ingredients.
1. The Ordinary | 544 King Street | 843.414.7060
Housed in a former bank on upper king street, this oyster bar and bistro serves a variety of local oysters and fresh seafood, ceviche and large plates such as whole Florida pompano.
2. Husk | 76 Queen Street | 843. 577.2500
Situated in a restored carriage house dating back to the 19th Century, Husk takes classic Southern dishes and gives them a twist using local seasonal produce. The menu changes daily, but I recommend going for lunch to try the signature cheeseburger and the tastiest shrimp and grits ever.
3. Martha Lou’s | 1068 Morrison Dr | 843.577.9583
This tiny roadside restaurant serves up yummy soul-food cuisine including juicy and crispy fried chicken, collard greens and lima beans.
4. The Belmont | 511 King St | 843.577.9583
This lounge is worthy of being in New York or Miami and has some delicious crafted cocktails from a variety of bourbons to vodka infusions with fresh herbs. test
5. The Cocktail Club | 479 King St #200
Well-crafted cocktails and wines are on the menu at this lively bar upstairs from The Macintosh restaurant with an outside rooftop terrace for lounging on beautiful balmy nights.
1. The Vendue | 19 Vendue Range | 843.577.7970
No two rooms are alike at this property, which consists of two buildings situated across the street from each other. I love this location, right in the historic district and close to the waterfront, making it easy to explore on foot. One of the buildings 19 Vendue just completed a major renovation with 45 guest rooms. Guests can expect complimentary wine and snacks in the evening as well as warm chocolate chip cookies before bed.
